About the CIDS

The CIDS is a joint center of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the University of Geneva dedicated to the study of international dispute settlement.

The Center for International Dispute Settlement (CIDS) is a joint academic initiative of the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute. Established in 2016, the CIDS serves as a hub for research, education, and public engagement in the field of international dispute settlement. It brings together expertise from both institutions to advance understanding of how international disputes are resolved across legal, diplomatic, and institutional contexts.

Our Flagship Program: the MIDS

One of CIDS's core contributions to education is the Master in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS). This prestigious LL.M. program is jointly offered by the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute and is coordinated by the CIDS. The MIDS provides advanced academic and practical training to students and professionals seeking careers in international arbitration, litigation, and dispute resolution. It reflects the CIDS's commitment to cultivating future leaders in the field.

Our mission

The CIDS's mission is to explore, understand, and inform about international dispute settlement. Through independent research, executive education, and public dialogue, the Center aims to:

  • Analyze the evolving norms and dynamics of dispute resolution
  • Educate future practitioners and scholars
  • Contribute to global debates and policy development
