The CIDS is a joint center of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the University of Geneva dedicated to the study of international dispute settlement.
The Center for International Dispute Settlement (CIDS) was established in late 2016 as a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Law at the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute. Its primary objectives include providing in-depth and executive education, promoting research, and contributing to public debates and activities in the field of international dispute settlement.
The Geneva Graduate Institute is a leading academic institution specializing in international relations and development studies established in 1927.
The University of Geneva, founded in 1559 by John Calvin, is one of Switzerland's largest universities and leading public research institutions.
The CIDS's mission is to explore, understand, and inform about international dispute settlement; to independently study its developments, dynamics, and norms; and to educate future actors.
The CIDS Council is the overarching body supervising the CIDS. Half of its members are appointed by the University of Geneva, the other half by the Graduate Institute. The Council sets the strategy and oversees all matters regarding the functioning of the Center.
The CIDS is ultimately accountable to the Directoire, comprising representatives from the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute, including Professors Audrey Leuba (Rector of the University of Geneva) and Marie-Laure Salles (Director of the Graduate Institute).
