Lukas Siegenthaler is Head of the International Investment and Multinational Enterprises Division at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) since 2008. In this capacity, he is in charge of negotiating international investment agreements on behalf of Switzerland and representing Switzerland in investor-state arbitration proceedings. Previously he was Head of the Multilateral Cooperation Division (Economic Development and Cooperation), the unit responsible for Switzerland's participation in the multilateral development banks. From 2003 to 2005 he was representing Switzerland at the Board of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, D.C. Prior to this appointment, he worked at SECO in the area of international trade (WTO negotiations, free trade agreements). He joined SECO in 1997. He studied law at the University of Basel (lic. iur. and Dr. iur.) and the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C. (LL.M.).
