At the occasion of the launch of the MIDS Alumni Network, the MIDS and the MIDS Alumni Network Steering Committee are pleased to invite you to a conference titled “International Dispute Settlement in Times of Global Crises”.

The event is free of charge and will take place online and in-person, at the Graduate Institute of Geneva - subject to COVID restrictions applicable at the time of the event. If you wish to attend this event in-person, please send an email to info@cids.ch before the 18 September (midnight).

The event will feature a keynote address from the MIDS faculty, followed by a conference exploring how the international dispute settlement system has dealt with global crises. There will be two panel discussions and two oxford style debates:

•  Panel 1 will focus on climate change and dispute resolution. The three speakers (*) will offer different perspectives on (i) climate change and organization of arbitration proceedings, (ii) climate change regulations in investment arbitration, and (iii) climate change in international trade law;
• Debate 1 will explore whether ISDS is well suited for adjudicating disputes arising out of climate change regulations;
• Panel 2 will discuss how international dispute settlement has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. The panelists will (i) focus on COVID-19 and legal tech, (ii) give practical tips for virtual advocacy and (iii) explore how arbitral institutions tackle the COVID-19 crisis;
• Debate 2 will examine whether arbitration is best suited for pandemic-affected companies. 

The conference will be concluded with closing remarks from the MIDS faculty, and a presentation of the alumni network and its activities.
